TEF Fertilizer award/TEF employee of the month award (En)

The TEF staff award can go to any TEF staff except admin, so this includes local staff who do admin work too.

Official internal name: TEF Fertilizer award

Official external name: The Employee of the Month award

The flow

  1. Announce on forum post (by the middle of the month at the latest)
  2. Inform Aki T (she takes care of emailing the teacher for the donation info. Aki T will cc Kara, Di, Aki H, and Matthew)
  3. Once Aki T gets the charity info, please check the charity to make sure it's in line with who we are as an organization
  4. Write up the news post 
  5. Send it to Mai for localization (please give her at least a week minimum)
  6. Publish the En/Jp news posts before the last Tuesday of the month (the newsletter that has the news post, blog post, and discussion post from the week before will go out on Tuesday. We want people to know about that month's winner before the month is over. Plus, the news post will be posted on social media that same Tuesday.)
  7. Add the newest TEF Fertilizer award winner, month and year, and charity to the TEF CSR page under "Teachers supporting the community". Also change the total number on the very bottom (see below).

The basic message we send teachers once they win it:

I am reaching out to you because I wanted to ask you a few things:

  1. The news posts will go out on our social media sites (Facebook & Twitter) too. I just want to make sure you are okay with this because it means if/when people click the link on your name, they will jump to your profile.
  2. Which charity would you like to donate to? (Please give me a link so I don't have to hunt for it!)
  3. Teachers also get a chance to explain why they chose the charity they did, if they'd like to. If you would, please write a short comment so I can copy & paste it onto the news post. The comment should be anywhere between 0 and 40 words so that it’s not too long.
  4. For your other prize, you can choose 5,000 yen worth of books from Book Depository. Please send us a list of the titles and urls of the books you have chosen and us ordering them for you on your behalf. If you can think of anything else that we can send online and ships worldwide (meaning we don't need an account in your country in order to send you the gift), please feel free to make suggestions!

You can take as much time as you need to think about #4, but as we have to send out the news post pretty soon, it would be really great if you could let us know which charity you would like to donate $250 to at your earliest convenience.

And please hit reply all so that everyone involved is kept in the loop!

Things to remember for the internal forum post:

  1. The forum post goes under "Administration" (e.g. TEF Fertlizer Award - March 2019).
  2. Please use the poop emoji. Haha - just kidding. Feel free to change it up if you want! (In my case, I used the poop emoji because it is the TEF fertilizer award and then signed off with a "You're the shit!")
  3. The TEF Fertilizer award is great because it gives recognition to teachers and shows them they are valued and their work and presence is seen. But it's also great to show teachers what behaviors we like to encourage (this can be anything from attitude to contributing content to how they write LRs or the speed in which they return homework to students, etc.).
