TEACHER PROFILE
1. Access:
- Get to your teacher profile by clicking "Profile" at the top of the page.
2. Teaching schedule, office hours timezone, earliest bookings, etc.
- Trainee may have filled out this section when applying to The English Farm. However, they will have to go back and edit it to make it more "student friendly." Teacher profiles are for the students, so they should not be written like a CV.
3. Making changes to teacher profile
- Click "Edit" at the top of the page to make any changes
- The sub-tab called "Account"
- Your username should just be your name.
- A profile picture will need to be uploaded here. The same profile picture should be used on Skype.
- You can turn off reminder emails here. This is completely optional.
- The timezone should be set automatically because it is based on IP address. Keep in mind it might not be exact location. For example, Kara is in Madrid, Spain, but her timezone automatically sets to Berlin, Germany. It doesn't really matter because they are in the same timezone.
- Make sure to check the "receive" box under "Comment follow-up notification settings." This is important as any time a student comments on a lesson record or homework assignment, you will get an email about it.
- Make sure to check the "Personal contact form" under "Contact settings." This allows students to contact you via email through your profile.
- Click "save" after making any changes. You will be brought back to your teacher profile.
- The sub-tab called "Location & language"
- Put in your current location, where you are from and any other languages you speak here.
- Click "save" when done making changes.
- The sub-tab called "Account"
- The sub-tab called "Teacher profile"
- Put in your name here.
- Put in your Skype ID. For example: k.wilson.ryan
- Putting in your regular availability:
- You can choose which timezone to put this in under "Teacher office hours timezone." Keep in mind that whatever you choose is what the students will see. If your local timezone is not Japan, your students will have to calculate out what your regular working hours mean in Japan time. Recommendation: creating a spreadsheet can help you figure out good working times that suit you and the students.
- Put in your regular working hours. If you are going to have split working hours (work in the morning, take a break in the afternoon and then work at night), you have to click "Add new time."
- Put in your booking horizons:
- Earliest bookings: how many minutes' notice you need. If no cap is put on this, students will be able to book lessons with you 30 minutes before the lesson starts. Note that you have to calculate this out in minutes, so 6 hours' notice would be 360 minutes.
- Latest bookings: put how many days in advance students can book with you. If no cap is put on this, students will be able to book with you 6 weeks in advance (6 weeks before the lesson takes place). You have total control of how far in advance someone can book with you.
- Put in your holidays (if any):
- If your holiday will last more than one day, click "Show end date." Note that your holidays will be from midnight to midnight in your local timezone! Click "Add another item" to add more holidays.
- Fill out the "About me," "Teaching experience" and "Teaching focus" sections. Make sure what is written is directed towards the student!
- Pick your "Course specialisations." You can always add to this later on.
- Fill out the "Professional experience" and "Education" sections. They should be directed towards the student.
- Under "Payment" choose how you will be paid.
- If you choose PayPal, put in the email address you use for PayPal.
- If you are a NZ resident, put in your tax information.
- Click "save" at the bottom of the page.
- Ignore the other sub-tabs called: "Profile," "Course & tests," "Needs & company (staff only)."
- Organize your introduction video. Send it to Content and Curriculum Jeremy over Skype when you are done.
- All guidelines are on the teacher help page for intro videos.
