To use TEFtalk you’ll need:
- a supported web browser;
- a supported operating system;
- a compatible device with minimum system requirements.
- a high-speed internet connection; and
- a built-in or external web camera, and a microphone.
Each section has details to help you solve any problems.
1. Web browser
TEFtalk supports these browsers. We recommend using the current version.
- Chrome Browser: download the latest version.
- Mozilla Firefox: download the latest version.
- Microsoft Edge: download the latest version.
- Apple Safari: download the latest version.
TEFtalk does not support Internet Explorer or any browser not listed.
2. Operating system
These operating systems are supported.
- Apple OS
- Microsoft Windows
- Chrome OS
- Android
The most recent version is recommended. Operating systems more than 5 years old are not supported.
3. Hardware
Your system must have at least:
- 2GB of RAM minimum; ideally 4+GB of RAM

Dual Core processor
To have smooth video plus other tabs open in your browser, one of the following is necessary:
- Quad Core Intel Celeron N4000/N5000 series processor
- 7th Gen Intel i3 processor
- 6th Gen Intel i5 processor
- AMD Ryzen 3 3300U
4. Internet connection
Your connection should be fast and stable. Check your speed on Google, click RUN SPEED TEST.
- Minimum upload speed of 800 Kbps
- Recommended download speed of 2.5 Mbps
5. Camera and Microphone
TEFtalk must access your camera in order to work.
If you have other applications using your camera and/or your microphone, you may need to exit them.
Fix problems with TEFtalk
If you are having problems, try the following.
- Log out of TEF and log in again.
- Clear the cache in your browser.
