Setting up Wise accounts

Wise is a fast and cost-effective way to move money around the world. See here for the list of countries TEF can send payment to

All TEF needs is an email address. When TEF pays you, you are notified by Wise that there is a payment waiting for you. You are prompted to enter your bank details and your payment is deposited into your account. Sometimes, this is done in a matter of hours, but it can depend on a range of factors beyond the control of The English Farm (such as how long it takes for funds to clear).

You do not need to have set up a Wise account to receive your first pay.

IMPORTANT: You must respond to Wise's email within 7 days or your payment will be returned to TEF. In these cases, there will be further delays in resending your payment.

Here some quick tips on how to set up a Wise account and then deposit directly to your bank of choice.

  1. Create a WISE account with an email that you would use for your banking account. Choose an email that will never change because of new employment, a potential IP change, or so on. This will prevent difficulties in the future with account verification to an old email. Note: you cannot have two Wise accounts to the same physical postal address.
  2. Make sure TEF has this email address!
  3. Connect Wise to your primary bank account. Verification is simple and takes about 2 bank days. You can add further banks, cards and payment accounts and switch them on or off as primary accounts whenever you like, instantly, once they have been verified.

Optional: You can open up a Balance by WISE so that you can transfer money between bank accounts in different countries without paying any fees (Wise has banks in many many countries). Do this by simply starting a balance in the Balance tab in the left main navigation.

Optional: You can get a Wise Debit card so that you can instantly get money from an ATM in the currencies you hold. The card security and digital features are superb.
