Adding email addresses to a user
Addiotional email addresses can be added to a user as follows, using Kahu as an example.
AS ADMIN USER:
- In GoogleApps admin find the user and click on them to view their "User Information"
- On the left beneath their name click on "Add Alternate Emails"
- Type in the alternate email you need and select the domain from the drop down. ( All the domains should be setup, if any needed are missing let me know )
AS THE USER IN QUESTION:
- The user now needs to log in to Gmail
- On the Right Hand Side click the COG and click on "See all settings"
- Click on "Accounts" from the top submenu
- In the "Send mail as:" click on "Add another email address"
- A pop up window should appear.
- Modify the "Name:" as needed
- Add the alias email address here
- Keep the "Treat as an alias" box ticked
- Click on "Next Step >>"
IF everything has been done correctly it will be completed - IF it mentions verification of any kind then the email address is not correct, or this is a group or other setup.
Still in the "Send mail as:" section on the settings page under "When replying to a message:" ensure that "Reply from the same address the message was sent to" is selected.
That should achieve the following:
- Emails sent to kahu@theenglishfarm.com will be arrive to the kahu@theenglishfarm.com logged in user
- Emails sent to kahu@korero.online will be arrive to the kahu@theenglishfarm.com logged in user
- If an email is received to kahu@theenglishfarm.com then when "replying" the reply will be "from" kahu@theenglishfarm.com
- If an email is received to kahu@korero.online then when "replying" the reply will be "from" kahu@korero.online
- When sending a new email the "from account" can be selected - e.g. Kahu can choose which email address to send from.
The "user" part of the above process can also be used to handle Group Aliases. ( The only difference is a verification email will be sent to the email that the user needs to confirm before they can use that alias ). That will then mean:e.g. People can receive email to "support@theenglishfarm.com" and reply using the email address "support@theenglishfarm.com" - this means that emails to "support@" would "stay group conversations" - not become "personal emails".
The use of this depends a lot on people and business needs - but is an option.More than happy to go through any of this with you or Kahu on a call if needed!!!!
