Working from home can be fun depending on the appropriate equipment and approach. Use the 5 tips you learned from Jeremy's experience to help you succeed in working from home.

If you need to work from home, there are some important things you can do to maintain productivity. With the right setup and the right approach, working from home can be very enjoyable.

As for me, I've been working from home for more than three years. I communicate with teams overseas and I manage my time while working on a number of projects. Here are some lessons I've learned.

  1. Workspace matters. I've set up an area without visual distractions. The fewer things I have to look at, the easier it is to focus on my job. This includes pens, books, cables, and pictures. I've cleared all those things away from my desk area and put them in drawers.
  2. Routine matters. I've scheduled the time that I work, and I work within that time. Finding my routine was hardest lesson to learn, but it was the most effective for improving work-life balance.
  3. Digital communication takes longer than in person. When I have things to discuss with my colleagues, I try to do it using video chat. It's especially important when working through a disagreement or aligning our goals at the beginning of a project. While it might seem easier to write a message, it often takes longer to work things out and find an agreement.
  4. Sleep and get exercise. Our bodies are complex, and you need to be healthy in order to think the most clearly . It might be a good idea to start doing yoga. I recommend Yoga with Adrienne .
  5. Make rules for yourself. In my case, I love silly podcasts. So my rule is that I only listen to them while I'm cleaning the house. Believe me, my house is very clean! Your rule might be that you watch your favorite TV show only after studying English for 30 minutes.

At the time of writing, we are living through the COVID 19 epidemic. But, even after this virus outbreak subsides, it may be necessary for you to find a way to work from home effectively.

All of The English Farm's teachers also teach from home. Ask your teacher if you have any questions about how they do it.
