Number of papers:​ ​4 (Reading and Use of English; Writing; Listening; Speaking) Total time​: 3 hours, 55 minutes
Pass score:​ 180 points (180-199: grades C and B; 200-210 grade A)

Paper 1: Reading and Use of English​: ​90 minutes

-  Part 1: ​Lexical cloze​ (multiple-choice)​: semantic precision, complementation, collocation

-  Part 2: ​Open cloze​: grammatical and lexico-grammatical language

-  Part 3: ​Word formatio​n​: transformation of word forms

-  Part 4: ​Key-word transformation​: paraphrasing

-  Part 5: ​Reading: multiple-choice​; detail, gist, implied-gist tone, attitude etc.

-  Part 6: ​Reading: Cross-text multiple-matching​: 4 related academic texts; focus on agreement

disagreement between authors

-  Part 7: ​Reading​: Gapped-text:​ insert missing paragraphs; focus on text structure, coherence,

cohesion, anaphoric and cataphoric referencing

-  Part 8: ​Reading​: Multiple-matching​: 4-6 related texts: summarizing/paraphrasing

Paper 2: Writing​: 90 minutes

-  Part 1:​ Essay

-  Part 2: ​Choose 1 question from 3 options; 4 text types possible, requiring different registers:

-  Letter/email

-  Report

-  Proposal

-  Review

 

Part 3: Listening​: 30 minutes

-  Part 1:​ 3 short extracts, multiple-choice

-  Part 2:​ Monologue of 3-4 minutes: sentence completion: complete gaps in summarizing

sentences with word(s) heard

-  Part 3:​ a 4-minute conversation (often an interview), multiple choice

-  Part 4:​ 5 short topic-related monologues, multiple matching

 

Part 4: Speaking​: 15 minutes; exam conducted with 2 (sometimes 3) candidates together

-  Part 1​: short social conversation with examiner (2 mins)

-  Part 2:​ Long turn: candidate speaks for 1 minute, comparing and contrasting 2 of 3 photos (4

mins)

-  Part 3​: 2-way discussion with other candidate based on a task

-  Part 4:​ 2-way discussion based on topic of part 3
