First impressions

A good first impression

I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. —Maya Angelou

How does someone make a good first impression? Their clothes? Their smile? The way they greeted you? First impressions are important, which is why we teachers at The English Farm help our students prepare for that first meeting. You only have one shot at making a good first impression, so make it count! People may not remember exactly what you said when they first met you, but they will certainly remember how you made them feel.

Language Point: 

In English, we use the term "I've learned" to share wisdom and insight from experience. Maya Angelou also has this wisdom to share:

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
