Teaching notes
The 3 parts of the brain mentioned are:
- left temporal lobe—lyrics (0:14);
- right parietal lobe—music (0:25); and
- cerebellum—rhythm (0:40).
Some other activities that use more than one part of the brain:
- dancing—physical coordination (cerebellum) and music (right parietal lobe);
- sports—physical coordination (cerebellum) and quick decision-making (left temporal lobe); and
- preparing a PowerPoint presentation—organizing data (left temporal lobe) and creating the visual appearance (right parietal lobe).
Discussion
What are the names of the 3 different parts of the brain mentioned? What happens in each of them when we sing?
Do you sing? How often do you think about music?
What other activities might require more than one part of the brain?
