Have I ever lied for someone? That means, have I ever told a lie to protect someone? That’s an interesting question, telling a white lie on someone else’s behalf, isn’t it, because usually you would lie for yourself. However, lying is not only dishonest, it can also get you into trouble. That’s why, as a rule, I don’t tell lies. But I have to admit that there was one time when I found myself in the position where telling a lie was necessary to protect someone else. It all stemmed from a meeting that my boss had arranged, but which my colleague had forgotten. So at the time of the meeting, we were all there apart from my colleague. Of course, the boss asked us where she was, and I realized she had forgotten, which was a bad mistake. The boss asked us if we had all got the email about the meeting, so I said no, I hadn’t, which was a lie. I told the lie to protect my colleague, you see. Accordingly, the boss thought the email hadn’t been sent to everyone for some reason, and we carried on with the meeting as normal. I told my colleague about it later and they promised not to forget a meeting ever again. I hope they don’t because I don’t want to tell any more lies, especially to my boss.
