Teacher Profile
I am from London but for the last 14 years I have lived in Barcelona, Spain. I love to travel and like to learn about the culture of each place I visit. I love to learn as much as I like to teach so I like to think this helps to keep me balanced and open minded. I enjoy the great outdoors as it is a time to recharge my batteries as well as spend valuable time with my family.
I have been teaching for 12 years. My classes have been varied from one to one conversation classes to group specific topics for working professionals. I have experience teaching Business English, exam preparation classes for different exams such as IELTS and TOEFL and various general courses at all levels from beginner to advanced. I feel that my background as a manager in a school has given me a good insight into different areas of business and by working with staff I have good communication skills which help when I am teaching.
My teaching focus is to help the student feel at ease to learn and speak in English. l ensure that my classes are relaxed but with a clear learning goal offering the student maximum talk time. I work towards each goal that a student has using the resources that we have at The English Farm. I feel it is important to be supportive and patient but also to correct errors in a way that is beneficial to the student. As a student myself I know how difficult it can be to learn a new language and I feel this helps me to understand how a student may be thinking in class.
Since 2009 I have taught English to adult students from all backgrounds. Before this I worked with children of all ages in a managerial position. I have worked with adult students from various countries to gain the Living in the UK exam which helps towards citizenship in the UK.
I completed a six year period of university to complete my degree as well as many training courses in early years education. I have the Trinity Tesol qualification in teaching English. I have completed various courses in teaching English as a second language that help professional development.
I think that working for the English Farm has been the best decision I have ever made about my work. I am able to choose my working hours and there is a great deal of flexibility too. This said, the students are front and centre and their learning is the most important aspect which I have found to be missing in other companies. The icing on the cake is the fact that I get to work with a group of warm and friendly people who are there to support and help you when needed. I could not be happier!
