Teacher Profile
I'm a native British English teacher from London. I'm passionate about languages and enjoy meeting people from around the world and learning about their cultures and languages. I divide my time between the UK and the Canary Islands (Spain) where I am learning to set up and maintain vegetable gardens and food forests according to the design principles of permaculture. I also enjoy hiking, cooking and reading widely from fiction to Economics and Popular Science.
I have over 10 years of online teaching experience in general English, Business English, TOEFL and IELTS preparation classes with students around the world. I have also taught in-company classes in Madrid to groups of working professionals.
Having studied various languages myself (French, German, Spanish & Cantonese), I know how it feels to learn a language from scratch and the difficulties students may face when learning English. I encourage students to speak and write with confidence about a wide range of business and non-business topics. I give clear guidance on pronunciation, grammar and expressions, and will patiently direct students through their learning material. I like to integrate material from media sources (ie. newspapers such as Business Insider, The Economist etc. and video presentations from TED) to make lessons interesting and relevant to current events.
I have a background in bookselling with two leading British bookstores and I have also worked with a private healthcare provider dealing with medical data archiving and insurance processing. These were customer and patient facing roles requiring good communication skills, a high degree of organisation and empathy. Before I started teaching English online, I worked with a British examinations board and an academic publisher in writing English examination papers, as well as training and supervising markers in the scoring systems.
I graduated from the University of London in English Literature and also hold a Cambridge/CELTA teaching qualification. I am currently studying for a Spanish proficiency diploma and have studied to intermediate level Cantonese and GCSE French.
Working at The English Farm enables me to work from home and connect online with a diverse community of students and teachers from around the world. We exchange information, ideas and banter in a friendly and professional setting. The team is very responsive, open to feedback, and celebrates the achievements of teachers and students. I'm very happy to be part of this collective.
