    Nationality: GB United Kingdom
    Location:
    GB United Kingdom
    First Language:
    English, British
    Other Languages:
    Spanish (Español)
    About me:

I am originally from a small town just outside of London called Gravesend.  For the last 10 years I have lived in Barcelona, Spain which has been a real pleasure.  I now travel between London and Barcelona on a regular basis.  In the UK I love to spend time with my family and also help in the family business which is a garden centre.  Working in the garden shop as the manager is interesting and very sociable.  In Barcelona I love to spend time with friends,  going to the beach in the summer and the mountains in the winter.  I am lucky to have the best of both worlds.  I try to keep fit and as there are many great places to go and see, going for a hike is one of my favourite things to do at the weekend.

    Teaching focus:

My teaching focus is to help the student to feel at ease to learn and speak in English.  I feel it is important to be supportive and patient in order to help a student feel confident but also to correct errors in a way that is beneficial to the student.  As a student myself I know how difficult it can be to learn  a new language and I feel this helps me to understand how a student may be thinking in class.   I work in a way that is flexible to the needs of each individual student.

    Teaching experience:

I have been teaching for about 14 years now. My classes have been varied from one to one conversation classes to very specific topics for working professionals.  I have experience teaching  Business English,  exam preparation classes for different exams such as IELTS and TOEFL and various general courses at all levels from beginner to advanced.    I have worked with one student at at time or with small and large groups.  I feel that my background as a manager in a school has given me a good insight into different areas of business and by working with staff I have good communication skills which help when I am teaching.  Working in retail means that I have to adapt to different situations that need me to be flexible and I think this helps me to be a better teacher as I am happy to work according to each students individual needs.

    Education:

I completed a six year period of university to complete my degree as well as many training courses in early years education.  I  have the Trinity Tesol qualification in teaching English.  I have  completed various courses in teaching English as a second language that help professional development.

    Professional experience:

My degree is in Early Education and Special Needs therefore I have worked as a Special Needs Co-ordinator for young children.  I have also worked as a supervisor/manager in an Early years setting where I had to create and implement curriculums for individual students.   I have worked in summer camps that offer intensive English courses for 16-18 year olds.  I have close links to an academy in the UK that help foreign students to gain the Living in the UK exam which helps towards citizenship in the UK.
